0 TABLESPACE(2): SYSTEM,SYSAUX

Tablespace is the logical allocation unit to manage the actual database file on the file system. It is equivalent of the file group in Microsoft SQL Server.

List all the tablespace in the database: dba_tablespaces

select tablespace_name,contents,status,SEGMENT_SPACE_MANAGEMENT from dba_tablespaces

System tablespace (SYSTEM)

Oracle instance use it to store Data dictionary.

desc dictionary
select * from dictionary;

The dictionary store all the table name for the database. In my example, I have 2630 tables. so I only list the first 20 tables’ table name.

System Auxiliary tablespace (SYSAUX)

Store Oracle option features related schema, such as OLAP( CWMLTE), Data Mining ( DMSYS)
