0 Disable/Enable Linux Service

On the Red Hat compatible Linux distribution. We can use service script to start/stop the service at the current run level.

Below is the example to stop the iptable service.

service iptables [status|start|stop]
service ip6tables [status|start|stop]

To disable at the time when the host reboot, we can use chkconfig command.

chkconfig --list iptables
chkconifg iptables on
chkconfig iptables off
chkconfig iptables on --level 2,3,5

As alternative, we can also modify the /etc/rc.d scripts.
