0 PostgreSQL VM: Jump Start with PostgreSQL

PostgreSQL is the very popular open source database. The easiest way to get hands on the PostgreSQL is probably select the PostgreSQL while you install most of popular Linux distribution., such as CentOS… etc. 

This post is to load up the pre build PostgreSQL VM from TurnKey Linux. Base on the TurnKey Linux spec, this vm disk should be able to import to VMWare and Virtual Box. Since the disk image itself is vmdk, I decide to load it with my VMWare. The full VM support spec can be found here.

 

Software

 

Open the vmdk from VMware: File –> Open

Once the VM is loading up, it would ask us to set up the passowrd for root.

postgres accont is for the Postgresql database.

I choice to skip the backup setting for now.

After the reboot, it will show you the web console information.

Install VMware Tool

 

mkdir cdrom
mount /dev/cdtom /media/cdrom

image

Uncompressed the VMWaare tool

tar xvzf /media/cdtom/VMwareTools-9.2.2-893683.tar.gz

install the vmware tool via executing the vmware-install.pl
